A game story covering the University of Nebraska-Lincoln baseball team's conference tournament championship in 2025 at Charles Schwab Field. It was my first experience covering a title game, and there was an emotional angle because of the passing of the Huskers play-by-play announcer prior to the season and the team's connection to him. Nebraska football's staff turnover is a first for Rhule in year three

I wrote this feature story on Nebraska football a few weeks before the start of my last semester in 2025 at UNL. I wanted to focus on challenging myself to tell a story that was different. With so much coverage of the team, I knew a lot of the focus would be on fall practice. So, I decided to take a deep dive into what made head coach Matt Rhule's third year at Nebraska, the 2025 season, different than those at his previous two college stops. This event coverage piece came together in the midst of pure chaos. Shortly after their head coach got ejected from the game, the Nebraska baseball team walked off Kansas State at Haymarket Park. I vividly remember writing this story not only due to the nature of the game, but also because of the quotes I, and the rest of the media, got out of the team. Link to story

A game story covering a walk-off win that kept the UNL baseball team's season alive. This piece was difficult because everything changed when Michigan State's left fielder dropped the final out, and the Huskers mounted an almost inconceivable comeback. Link to story

Nebraska volleyball beats alumni team in four sets

This game story presented multiple challenges. It was the first Nebraska volleyball scrimmage like it in many years, and I had only covered one volleyball game prior to it. It was a little bit of a learning experience for me. I had not lacked confidence covering an event in a while and feeling that way forced me to find ways to overcome those challenges. Link to story

Nebraska baseball's offensive resurgence fueled by fewer strikeouts

This is probably my favorite data-driven piece I've ever produced. I went into the research process thinking there was a story to be written about the Nebraska baseball offense, and came out of it with the season numbers of two players that practically mirrored each other. Both had similar strikeout rates early on in conference play and turned their numbers around at the exact same time. I remember feeling like the numbers practically did my job for me. Link to story

This event coverage story was one of the most difficult pieces I've ever produced. The morning before the game, the play-by-play voice of the Nebraska baseball team passed away. I didn't know how to approach it, but I felt like I had a responsibility that I'd never experienced before to tell the story in a way that made his impact clear. Link to story

This was an event coverage piece that provided me with my first experience attempting to tell the story of an upset I witnessed in person. It may seem simple, but I've always loved seeing romanticism in sports. The opportunity to be the one to describe a game like that for the first time is one I will never forget. Link to story

Murray, middle blockers lead going into conference play

This data-driven piece is my favorite related to volleyball because it shows my growth as a writer covering the sport. I used numbers, and my increased understanding of them, to portray my thoughts of the Nebraska volleyball team. The continued success of the players I highlighted in the article also improved my confidence in myself and helped me feel more comfortable covering a sport I had little experience with going into the season.
